GAF’s Coordinator, Rada Elenkova, was invited to present a lecture and to initiate a discussion during the second edition of WAKE UP Youth Music Festival.
The festival is unique to the territory of Plovdiv region, as it offers a great variety of music styles and side activities which give space for improvisation and interaction.
The festival’s primary goal was through music and different activities, all participants to be able to discover new characteristics about themselves and to find new friends in a jolly and colorful atmosphere.
In harmony with nature and the objectives of the festival, the GAF coordinator presented in an interactive way a lecture on "Gender equality in the context of climate change", which was followed by a lively discussion.
Among the informal atmosphere participants were challenged to consider the links between gender, human impact in nature, climate change and natural disasters.
Big interest prompted statements and statistics related to the impact of climate on gender. It was found, for instance that due to the weak position of women in society, which leads to lack of access to information and services, they are in greater deadly risk in situations of natural disasters.
Due to the positive energy and successful performance, the organization is in contact and intends to participate in initiatives of other musical events coming up this summer!
