Sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) are central to human development. The SRHR agenda is centrally inter-linked to all key development agendas: gender equality, human rights, poverty, migration, health, climate change, population dynamics, food security and access to resources.
The 2012 international conference, topically themed “Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights in the Next Global Framework. Promoting a critical dialogue”, took place on 11th and 12th October in Brussels. It was organized by EURONGOs. The aim was to inspire SRHR CSOs, UN agencies, donors and representatives from governments and intergovernmental institutions to engage strongly and positively on SRHR in preparation for the post-2015 global policy agreement.
The specific objectives of the conference were:
1) To inform on the ongoing parallel themes and processes that will lead to the post-2015 global policy agreement and how to bring SRHR into them.
2) To encourage CSOs and governments to take leadership on SRHR in the run up and beyond 2015.
3) To dialogue on ways to build political consensus around SRHR in global policy in the run up and beyond 2015.
